We love to eat here in San Antonio. There's nothing tastier than a fresh barbacoa taco on a warm flour tortilla and an ice cold Big Red to wash it down with. I get it. I'm guilty of eating all of that and more. The weight struggle is real for many of us here in San Antonio. The food in our city is simply amazing. In fact, San Antonio was recently designated as a Creative City of Gastronomy by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. Translation: Our food is REALLY good 'round here.

In a recent study by WalletHub, Americans are statistically the most overweight people in the world. Almost half (40%) of us are obese. Which is exactly why I've recently been hitting the gym and cutting my calorie intake! This pandemic weight gain hit me hard. I was weighing in at 268 when my doctor said calmate. I've since lost about 25 lbs, and I understand that there's a long way to go, but small daily lifestyle changes seem to do better for me than a quick weight loss plan where you're starving yourself. Gym buddy anyone?

In this study the No. 1 most overweight or obese city in America was McAllen, TX in the Rio Grand Valley. I mean have you ever had Delia's Tamales?!

San Antonio came in at No. 2 in Texas behind McAllen, and No. 25 nationally.

Here are some great exercise opportunities in our area:

Fitness in the Park is a FREE City of San Antonio program that offers free fitness classes all over San Antonio.

One of my favorite things to do is join the free Tuesday night bike rides with SATX Social Ride group.

The Y also provides programs to the entire community regardless of their inability to pay, financial assistance is provided based on need.

If you ever want to join the Tuesday night bike rides let me know! We usually have 100+ riders and it's family friendly and always a fun way to burn some calories. Now, about those barbacoa tacos... :)
