LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The rocky relationship between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West appeared to be heading for an official split today, with reports that the reality star has filed for divorce, ending the couple's nearly seven- year marriage.

TMZ broke the news, citing court documents filed by well-known divorce attorney Laura Wasser. Multiple media outlets, citing sources connected with Kardashian, confirmed the report, although the court papers were not immediately available through the Los Angeles Superior Court system.

Kardashian and West have been married since mid-2014 and they have four children -- daughters North and Chicago, aged 7 and 3, respectively; and sons Saint, 5, and Psalm, who will turn 2 in May.

Neither Kardashian nor West have publicly commented on the development.

According to the TMZ report, the divorce is an amicable split, with Kardashian, 40, seeking joint legal and physical custody of the children. The website reported that both parties plan to adhere to a prenuptial agreement the couple had in place.

The divorce will be Kardashian's third, but the first for West, 43.

The tumult in the couple's relationship has been chronicled in media reports for months, with the pair reported to be living separately and seeing each other primarily for the sake of their children. West has been reported to be spending most of his time at a ranch in Wyoming.

West grabbed headlines last year with an aborted presidential campaign, during which he made a series of bizarre appearances that included jabs at the Kardashian family, most notably Kris Jenner. He also famously said he had pushed for Kardashian to abort their first child.
