J Balvin at the VMAs

Last week MTV announced their 2020 Video Music Award nominees, and the show is scheduled to be live on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m. CT. This year due to the pandemic it’s unclear how much of the VMAs will be live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and how much from it will be done virtually. It would not be the first time that the show goes virtually or remotely. In previous years we’ve seen performances by The Jonas Brothers, Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato and many others from different locations.

So far J Balvin, BTS and Doja Cat have been announced as performers. This will be the first time that BTS and Doja Cat will perform at the 2020 VMAs. Last year BTS had four nominations and claimed the award for ‘Best Group’ and ‘Best K-Pop’, this year they have three nominations. Doja Cat is nominated for ‘Push Best New Artist’, and two more nominations for her song ‘Soy So’ under the categories of ‘Best Direction’ and ‘Song of the Year’.

For second year in a row, J Balvin will perform at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. Last year the Colombian superstar teamed up with Bad Bunny to sing ‘Que Pretendes’ from their album OASIS. This year J Balvin leads the Latinos with four nominations, one nomination for ‘Best Collaboration’, and three for ‘Best Latin’. J Balvin has dominated the award for ‘Best Latin’ for the previous two years. In 2018 he won with his song ‘Mi Gente’, and ‘Con Aluta’ on 2019 he won with Rosalia.

More performers will be announced soon, let’s see if any other Latinos join J Balvin at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t forget that you can vote for VMAs by visiting vma.mtv.com until Aug. 23rd.
