Texas is representing in a huge way!
World's Best Vineyards ranked the top 100 vineyards across the globe and only six of them can be found in the U.S. The list features vineyards from Asia, Italy, Australia, Portugal, South Africa and Greece, to name a few.
The No. 1 vineyard in the world is Marchesi Antinori in Chianti Classico in Italy. As far as the states go, the top vineyard in the country is Robert Monavi Winery in Napa Valley, California. All but one of the top vineyards in the U.S. can be found in California. The other one, of course, is right here in the Lone Star State.
William Chris Vineyards in Hye comes in at No. 56 overall and No. 3 in the U.S.
"I think the secret is out about Texas wine and it’s not surprising anymore. I think that it was some definite, well-deserved acclaim for all the hard work. We’ve been going since 2008 so it’s pretty, pretty amazing," said William Chris Vineyards co-founder Chris Brundrett.
Brundrett also shared what the secret to making wine in Texas is — "the quality of the grapes." "If we don’t have amazing grapes, there's no way we can make it with amazing wine. And that takes not only the right varieties in the right place, but also really dedicated people. It's not enough to work hard and it's not enough to work smart: You have to be both," he said.
