Many people know Sabrina Carpenter for her breakout role as Maya Hart on Disney Channel’s spinoff series Girls Meet World, but tonight (Friday, September 23), here on the Honda Stage at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles, she’s the must-watch singer-songwriter who has an explosive album on the way.

Ahead of her EVOLution album’s scheduled release on October 14 (via Hollywood Records), Carpenter gave exclusive performances of her new music, as well as old tracks from her debut repertoire, Eyes Wide Open.

Her night opened with an towering performance of “Wildside,” which was succeeded by a smoldering live rendition of “Smoke and Fire.” After flexing her breathy vocals and setting the stage ablaze for the two familiar tunes, Carpenter debuted “Feels Like Loneliness,” a flirty, Pink Panther-esque track embellished with rhythmic finger snaps and flirty lyrics. She also previewed the synth-heavy “Thumbs,” and “Run and Hide,” a raw, guitar-driven track that was written in two hours and was mastered in one take.

In between performances, Carpenter spoke to KIIS FM’s JoJo Wright about her new music, her appropriate evolution for the next album, and why she cowrite every song on the LP.

“I wanted to know the story behind each and everything I was saying,” she said about her decision to have a more active role in the songwriting process. "I wanted to be honest, I wanted it to relate to people, and I wanted it to relate to me because in the end, I’m singing these songs until I’m sick of them.”

In addition to performing her own songs, Carpenter showed off her vocal dexterities and arresting stage presence by covering Beyonce’s Lemonade anthem “Freedom,” and Nick Jonas and Tove Lo’s sultry collaboration “Close.”
